Baseball Dad Doing Some Serious Traveling

Time to get back on the road for this baseball dad. The showcase season is now bringing us to it’s fourth tournament. So far we have stayed within an hour and a half from home. There’s been a lot of back and forth from the ballfields, but nothing crazy. This week we are over three hours from home. We are staying in a hotel which the boys love. This baseball dad just has to try to keep them entertained between games. They played their first game yesterday. They are playing at a very nice Division I University. For some of the players, this is ther nicest field they have ever been on. It brings back fond memories for me as I played here several times over 20 years ago. We have a very talented team. Most of the players will probably end up playing at a good college as long as they stick with it. It is a lot different than the high school ball we just finished playing. Every one of these players was one of the best players in their high school program. Games have a two hour time limit, but most don’t last that long. The boy’s are facing very good pitching and using wood bats. Our high school team maybe faced one pitcher all season that throws as hard as most of these pitchers. Most of the games are low scoring affairs. Yesterday’s game ended 2-2 after seven innings. There are no tie-breakers since this is not tournament format. They are playing just to be seen by college coaches and scouts.
Our next game is at 8:00 p.m. this evening followed by a 1:30 p.m. game tomorrow. We will go home after the game tomorrow and get up early Friday to travel another three hours away for doubleheader at another college. We will return home for Friday night and leave for an overnight stay for one game Saturday night and another Sunday afternoon at another college. All in all this baseball dad will put about 900 miles on his truck this week but wouldn’t have it any other way. I missed a few games earlier this season because of work and decided that I didn’t like that. I would much rather try to be the ultimate baseball dad.
